It has been five years since fans and film fanatics were given the opportunity to watch Frank Castle a.k.a. The Punisher tune up on some bad guys on the big screen.
The most recent opportunity given is the 2008 release of Lexi Alexander’s Punisher: War Zone. Alexander is an award winning short film maker and is also known for her gritty drama Green Street Hooligans, about youngsters beating each other’s heads in over their favorite futbol clubs. War Zone is by far completely different from anything Alexander has done before, and to my surprise as a fan of the Punisher MAX line (guilty as charged) and all around film nut, she has done so with a certain measure of success.

Looks like Maple Pictures has hit the jackpot once again with Punisher: War Zone, an adrenalin rush for action junkees now stoking pulses.
Bullets and lots of bullets explode onscreen as the ultimate avenger goes after the bad guys/gals and vice versa. Presented by the brain trusts from Marvel Comics this 103 minute explosion of action will certainly please those looking for a little drawn out mayhem.
Mindless (?) violence is the order of the day for Frank Marshall. Mad at seeing his family gunned down by local hooligans this one man killing machine continues to exact justice from the criminals who the judiciary have somehow managed to let loose. Though we’ve all seen these revenge tales before as exemplified by Charles Brosnan in 1974 and the unassailable Clint Eastwood/Dirty Harry classics from the 70s onward new kid on the block Ray Stevenson (King Arthur) can clearly hold his own when on a mission, no matter how preposterous.

“Punisher: War Zone,” directed by Lexi Alexander and starring Ray Stevenson as Frank Castle, the infamous vigilante known the world over as The Punisher, is one of the greatest B-movies ever made.
Ever.
I know, I know, it seems impossible. This is the third different “Punisher” movie in twenty years, and odds were not good going in that the new flick, which clearly isn’t a sequel to the 2004 Thomas Jane movie (which, in and of itself was, at its best, just okay), was going to do anything but suck, blow, and bite, most likely all at the same time. But that didn’t happen. No, “Punisher: War Zone” manages to do dang near everything right. It is a B-movie masterpiece that absolutely needs to be seen on the big screen.

Three more actors have been added to the cast of Lionsgate’s forthcoming sequel The Punisher: War Zone. In a posting at her official site, Punisher director Lexi Alexander revealed that Dash Mihok (Hollywoodland), Colin Salmon (AvP, Resident Evil), and Doug Hutchison (The Green Mile, Bait) have joined the film, which stars Ray Stevenson as the title character.
Mihok will play Detective Martin Soap; in the comics, Soap is an NYPD detective assigned to head the Punisher Task Force. Salmon, who co-starred as “Robinson” in the Pierce Brosnan-era Bond films, will portray Agent Paul Budiansky, a character who appeared in The Punisher #48, written by Garth Ennis. Hutchison has been cast as Looney Bin Jim, the brother of the film’s main villain, Billy Russo a.k.a. Jigsaw.
Speaking of the devil, Alexander posted, “I have the perfect, most talented Jigsaw!!!!!!! Stay tuned.” We all know now that the chosen actor isn’t Paddy Considine.
